In 1966, Mac and Chere McGhie left Utah and moved to Las Vegas hoping for a better life. They started their work life in Las Vegas by working for a general contractor rehabbing abandoned homes for mortgage companies. Times were tough back then, and many people had left their homes during the recession of the mid 1960's. Less than one year after moving to Las Vegas, they combined their names and founded Chermac Builders with State Contractor License 9401. While continuing to do rehab work, the company built several small tracks of homes from 1969 through 1978.
