SLEMCO provides retail electric power to homes, businesses and industrial customers throughout the Louisiana parishes of Acadia, Avoyelles, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermillion. The company was founded in 1937 as a private membership corporation, governed by a board of directors and an appointed management team. SLEMCO serves more than 80,000 customers via 8,400 miles of energized transmission and distribution lines. The company also plays an active role in the southwest Louisiana communities it serves through its college scholarship programs, endowed professorships and Operation Round-Up grants to needy individuals and aggressive economic development activities.
