Founded in 1949, the Kotzebue Electric Association is member-owned, nonprofit cooperative that generates and supplies electric power. It serves clients in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors. The cooperative administers power theft prevention and wind energy programs. It has more than 800 members and installs turbines. The cooperative also installs underground service connections, meters and emergency generators. It is responsible for locating, furnishing, operating and removing primary and secondary voltage meters.
