I was high school valedictorian and finished my premed degree (BS in Biomedical Science and Chemistry) three years after high school, finishing in the Honors Program Magna Cum Laude from St Cloud State University. I then moved to Oregon for my OD degree in Optometry, and was awarded the Beta Sigma Kappa Award as an Honor Student at Pacific University College of Optometry in 1990. I worked a short year at a private practice in Owatonna, then moved to Burnsville where I had my children. As a working mother, I worked as a staff optometrist for nearly 20 years at Park Nicollet. I also worked about seven years while my children were young as a doctor at Pearle Visio
